The team behind Lighting Design at Aalborg University Copenhagen is happy these days. The programme has been nominated for a prestigious award in the education category at the Professional Lighting Design Convention (PLDC) in Paris this November.
The committee states the following as motivation:
"Lighting Design at Aalborg University Copenhagen/DK has been shortlisted for the Professional Lighting Design Recognition Awards in the category of education. The shortlisting is because of their significant impact in the field of Architectural Lighting Design through their transdisciplinary Master’s programme in Lighting Design, which draws on knowledge and skills in architecture, lighting engineering and media technology. The PLDC convention in Paris in November concludes with a grand Gala Evening at which the Professional Lighting Design Recognition Awards will be presented."
The Lighting Design programme commenced in 2014, but has already been discovered by the international society. The nomination is seen as a recognition of the programme's distinctive foundation in a special Danish and Nordic tradition of sensibility to light in our built environment. In addition, it is an acknowledgement of the unique profile of the graduates, stemming from the combination of architecture, lighting and media technology.
Both excitement and humbleness in the Lighting Design-camp
No one could be happier than the programme coordinator for the Lighting Design programme, associate professor Ellen Kathrine Hansen: "We are so humbled and so excited about this nomination", she says. "Even though we don't win the category, no one can take away our pride and happiness about this honour", and she continues: "Bur for now, everyone is of course keeping their fingers crossed".
The convention takes place from 2nd to 4th November in Paris. It is the 6th biannual convention; the first took place in 2007. PLDC brings together lighting designers, architects, researchers, universities, industry and clients on a common platform with focus on quality knowledge sharing and international networking opportunities.
